Holiday Clinic Age Group Progressions
Our Holiday Clinics are designed with age group progressions in mind. Each age group is set specific learning objectives that help the child grow as they progress through the different levels.
Yes we do use games to teach the players the skills necessary for a safe, confident and enjoyable rugby career. Studies have proven that games are more likely to hold the concentration span of children between 6 - 12 years. Each game, however, has been specifically designed to teach the player 3 important learning points for rugby. Most importantly the players will have a day of fun with their friends and get the chance to put their rugby skills to the test.
Our age group progressions are as follows;
Walla - Non-Contact Games
The Walla program is designed for young players starting out. It is a non-contact program that primarily is designed to introduce the basic structures of a rugby game as well as work on spatial awareness.
This age group will learn about passing techniques, catching, running straight and forward, defending in a line and support.
Mini - Contact Confidence
Players in this age group will be introduced to the techniques necessary for confident and safe tackling. Confidence in contact is the key for young players, too often players are scared to make tackles or enter into a contact situation, which commonly results in an injury and further reduced confidence.
In this age group the games are designed to progress from the Walla games into contact versions. The players will be taught correct body height, tackling techniques, passing skills, evasion, ball security and support.
Midi - Skill Cementation
The aim of the Midi program is to cement all the skills and techniques learnt in the previous programs and prepare the players for the academy style of clinics provided by individual clubs and organisations.
The players will work through games with higher intensity and more variables similar to a game.The aim is to test the players skills and allow them to work on their weaknesses.
